Although Kathryn Tucker Windham is best known for her lifetime of work promoting the Southern art of storytelling, she also has devoted herself to preserving the art of Southern cooking. The two passions are actually closely related, she notes, because the best stories are often told at the dinner table as families and friends gather around a bounty of great Southern food and linger over an extra piece of pie.

Haunted Hayride

Mark your calendars to be spooked!   It is time again for the haunted hay ride. The haunted hay ride will take place Monday, October 26, and Tuesday, October 27. The time is set for 8:00 PM each night. The price for tickets is $5.00 per person. Pre-sale tickets will also be available for purchase. Concessions will be served. Children eight-years-old and younger need to be accompanied by an adult for the ride. -this story provided by Rachel McMillan, student reporter

 

Art Students Work with Charlie Lucas

Students from the Alabama Southern's Art Department recently attended a "working session" held in Alabama Southern's Welding Department. The Design I and II students had the opportunity to work with Charlie Lucas, an international artist who specializes in assemblage art.   The folk art of Charlie Lucas, whether two or three dimensional, touches all that see it. "It has the honesty of humanity even though it is constructed from discarded industry and technology," comments Alma Brown, Art Instructor at Alabama Southern. The students work will be featured in Southern Networks on the Thomasville campus of Alabama Southern and will be unveiled on September 29th during the Kathryn Tucker Windham event.
